Font Analysis

All films have a font style used for the title sequence and main title on posters and billboards etc. There are two types of fonts. These are:

  • Serif
  • Sans Serif

Serif fonts are different from Sans Serif fonts because they tend to be more formal and traditional. The basic and also one of the main Serif font is Times. Serif fonts look more formal compared to Sans Serif fonts as these fonts have a slight 'stroke' on each letter.

The Untouchables was a film based on the (crime, drama and historical thriller) genre. A Paramount Pictures film, 1987. The film starrs Kevin Costner, Sean Connery & Robert De Niro.
The font used for the film is 'Perpetua'. This is a Serif font style. This font is used because it gives the film a serious and formal categorie. The title is written in full capital letters, which gives a sence of a masculine character, big, bold and formal.

Sans Serif fonts are less formal compared to the Serif fonts. They are more curvy, bold and modern - informal writing! A common Sans Serif font style is Comic Sans.

The Young Victoria was a film that was out not very long ago. Its a 2009, GK film. They've recieved an oscar for 'Best costume design!' The film has a mix of genres, however the main genre is 'romance & drama.' The font style for this film is Sans Serif which is called 'Avenir'. The font is Sans serif although its a film based on a historical lifestyle. Both Serif and Sans Serif could go along to the films font style. I believe that Sans serif was chosen as it looks more modern and feminine!
