Camera & Health and Safety tutorial

Intro to Camera & Health and Safety. In this session we were taught to be able to use the cameras safely without damaging them and also to make sure that we use it correctly, such as making sure the microphone is turned on and the cameras in focus and also using angles.

We were taught how to use the tripod for the camera to have better a steady quality and we learnt how to keep the camera steady on the tripod with a "click" so it is firmly placed onto the tripod which would avoid the camera from falling, while filming to make the shots look professional and not so much of a low budget by using handheld cameras only! We are clearly aware of how high the tripod can go and how to use it to make it equal for each leg so the the camera is straight and steady instead of being on the side.
We learnt all the main and very basic things about using a camera, such as how to turn on the camera, zoom in and out, catch focus and also how to use volume and how to make sure that its on. We learnt how to use special techniques like over shoulder view, birds eye view, worms eye view and panning.

A way to avoid any health and safety problems is to make sure that there is always somebody beside the camera while filming etc so that other people do not trip over. We are also aware that we would not be eating or drinking beside the camera and other equipment such as lighting and microphone because it seriously damage the equipment.

We are also aware of how to use the camera properly so that we capture our shots correctly as in getting the right angles and etc so that a characters head isn't half cut or the audience doesn't have a clear understanding of what kind of shot is being used. This could be a medium shot were the camera would shot a characters upper body etc.

Another thing that were clearly aware of 'not to do around the camera' is not to run around, make sure we don't trip over by keeping a distance between the camera and a person. Also making sure we don't have any water around it.

Another safety issue that me and my group friends are aware of is that while were shooting outside we would need to make sure we could keep away from people that look as though they could make trouble. If there is such case we would obviously contact our teachers, if very serious - we would know to contact our parents, police etc!
