These are nine shots from the opening of the film my group made called The Reading. I think these screen grabs sum up the film very well, as you can see many of our shot types including close ups and the credits. Our production company was called Candi Studios, so our budget was very low and not very well known, so it would be hard to distribute our film.

'Dexter' is a television show usually shown on FX only, it stars Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgn, a serial killer who leads a normal life as a police officer without being caught.

My group and I were not able to use any famous names or faces in our film opening as they would have been too costly, especially on our very low budget. This is one of the reasons we used Candi Studios instead, as the settings etc would have been hard to recreate in London over two weeks filming.

The credits we used are half real, half fake, as we didn't want to use our names twice, so we each chose a role and put ourselves down as that, for example I was the main character, so I was put down as 'starring Lydia Alldritt'.
Our characters challenge the normal, stereotypical film opening as the two main characters; the fortune teller and the victim are very mysterious. The main character dies before the opening credits are finished, and so, instead of getting to know our main character in the opening two minutes, the audience just see a random person. Also, the fortune teller's face is never shown properly, just a close up of her eye and hands, keeping her shrouded in mystery.
Also, the setting we used was unordinary, as we used two different locations and flicked between them. The location in the park was then saturated to make it seem more surreal and supernatural, keeping in line with the film's plot. The locations were made to be very contrasting, with the one in the park very light, and the one in the fortune teller's room very dark and eery for the audience to watch.
The handheld camera was different to most people, as not many other groups used hand held camera shots. As we used it when we were running, it makes it seem really frantic and scary, so the victim looks as if she is running for her life.
The genre for our film is probably very niche, as it is a paranormal thriller more than anything else. Also, it is a little bit gothic, and so would appeal to that market.
