EVALUATION - Q1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Published Tuesday, 20 April 2010 by CANDIMEDIA in Ezgi Albay
'The Reading' is a trailer that me and my group members Lydia Alldritt and Reem Emary produced. We chose our production company to be 'Candi Studios' which clearly isn't one of the Big Six. This makes it clear that our film is a low budget film.
An example of a film from the Big six could be 'Mission Impossible'.

Mission Impossible 3 (also known as M:I:III) was an Action / Thriller film made by One of the Big Sixes - Paramount. The film stars Tom Cruise (Ethan Hunt) as the main character of all series!
The reason why me and my group never chose to star anyone famous and choose a production from the big six is because it would have been very hard to find extreme settings, locations and the mise en scene. We didn't want to risk a failure therefore chose to use 'Candi Studios' for our production.
For our Directors and all the information about who produced the title sequence, we wrote down our own names and chose to put a made up name in for one of the starring as we didn't want to use our names twice. We didn't give any famous / important names for any of these because it wouldn't be realistic.
We included the Production company, Starring, Director, Producer and Music. We deliberately chose not do go into things like 'Costume design', 'Hair and Make-up' etc because we wanted to keep it simple so the audience could concentrate on the actual trailer such as locations and mise en scene and the actual scenario rather than all the detailed made for the trailer.
We wasn't really inspired by any movies made in the past, we wanted to plan something different! However something similar with Mission Impossible and our trailer, just as similar as it is to many other trailer is the fact that we chose to explain the storyline a bit instead of keeping it as just showing the location or not having a meaning or idea to what the film could be about. We wanted to explain what the film roughly is about. Mission Impossibles trailer also does the same as they give away some of the things that will be happening in the film.
Both our trailer and Mission Impossibles trailer introduces the main characters of the film in the trailer into what they are like in the film. Meaning not only showing their faces but bringing forward their character. Such as the audience of our trailer could clearly tell that their is a main character that's a fortune teller , similarly we are aware that Tom Cruise is a character full of action!
Our trailer gives away the main settings of the film which is in a forest surrounded with trees and a fortune tellers room. Similarly, Mission impossible gives away the settings and locations. Although M:I:3's trailer is mainly based on the roads, we can see this as the trailer tells a lot about the film being an action thriller and the audience could tell that a lot is going to be based on roads!
Mission Impossibles theme tune has become a general and is a very powerful orchestral, differently our theme music is instrumental made on SoundTrackPro.
Mission Impossibles trailer has a lot of dialogue as well as just sound affects and the theme music, however our trailer is just a theme music. This is because we chose and decided together to have no dialogue as it can give away and spoil the trailer.
