Thriller Sub-Genres

Genres are divided into sub-genres. Thriller is a broad genre that contains many other kinds within. Some of these genres are:

- Action Thriller
These films tend to contain a lot of violence and has hidden 'crime' & 'mystery' thrillers within. Usually, there a large amount of guns and explosions used. Fast editing paste and low-pitched strong/loud music have an affect on this genre. An example of an action thriller movie could be James Bond films.

- Crime Thriller
Crime thrillers are films that are very suspencfull. Crime thrillers are based on criminals rather than policeman! They have elements of 'psychological' thriller. This is because of the storylines. The films tend to be about murderers, robberies, chases and shootouts.

- Drama Thriller
Drama thrillers contain elements of thiller and drama films. They are generally slow paced compared to the other sub-genres. They involve great deal of character developement along with plot twists. A famous drama thriller was 'The Prestige'.
- Psychological Thriller
This sub-genre is less violent compared to many of the others. They still contain violence, but not as much as others. Instead they are more emotional / mental rather than physical. A classic pyschological thriller could be 'Shadow of a doubt'.

- Science Fiction (sci-fi) Thriller
Sci-Fi thrillers contain many other sub-genres within. They are generally based on techniqal things. They are less likely to be land based, and have a lot of action. These kind of films are less realistic compared to the othe sub-genres.

- Religious Thriller
Religious thriller films are based on conflicts within a religion / religions. Problems and suspence that occur with things to do with religion. Such as a story about Djinns. A good example of religious thriller would be 'The Da Vinci Code'.
